5 Handy Tricks For Galaxy Y

This is my first post. In this post I am going to introduce you to a few simple tips and tricks which can come of great help.
Most of the tips and tricks in this post are probably known by most of you but this post is more focused towards the newbies so please refrain from posting "I already knew this, this is an useless post", etc.

1. How to hide particular files from showing up in Gallery or Music Player.

Sometimes there are things that we do not want our friends or relatives seeing while they are using our phone. Most of the times a friend/relative would be interested to check your songs or what kind of content you have in your gallery.
So instead of deleting the particular files or moving them to your computer all of the time, you can hide them in just a few seconds.
All you need to do is create a folder called .nomedia wherever you want on your sdcard (you can do this from your phone by selecting Menu button -> Create Folder), then put the particular files on that folder and the files will not appear in media apps.
You can also press the Menu key on your phone, then choose More -> go to Settings and untick the "Show hidden files" option if it is enabled. That way you will hide the .nomedia folder from the My Files app aswell.

2.Take screenshots on Galaxy Y

Taking screenshots on galaxy isn’t difficult. To take screenshots you have to first hold down the menu key and then press the power/lock key immediately. Don’t hold the menu key too long otherwise lock button will not work. I’ve taken some screen shots which looks as follows.

3.How to make galaxy y run faster.

Galaxy y has 290 MB RAM and 832 MHz processor, but sometime you will find lack of memory due to various applications running in background. These apps waste android system memory. So you should clear them off if they are not used. You can clear them by using task manager like advance task killer, memory clear, easy task clear and many other apps which are easily available on google play. Also galaxy y has it’s built in task killer which do this work for you. Open task manager then move on to the RAM tab then click clear memory. It will free off the RAM and save memory.
Another method to make your galaxy y run faster is that clear your cache memory. To do this follow these steps
go to menu → settings → applications→ memory usage
in this way you can see your apps. The apps which are taking extra memory click on it then select wipe cache memory mostly browser and facebook like applications are taking more memory.

4.How to view and extract .rar files
You can’t open a .rar file on a pc unless you install winrar. In exact same you you need an application on android devices to open .rar files. For this there are many apps on google play but I recommend “adrozip” (the link is given below). After installing this app you can easily view .rar files on galaxy y and extract them on your phone and the can easily transfer apps the extracted files to your pc. This app is like winrar we use on pc. Also ou can backup your apps and can create zip archives on your galaxy y using this app. You can long press on any folder to create a zip of that folder and single click on any file to make zip file. These zip files will be stored to the sd/memory card.

5.How to record incoming calls on galaxy y

As there is no pre built application for galaxy y to record calls. But you can download “call recorder” app from play store to record incoming calls on your android devices. This app works in background and saves them on memory card. It provides three formats of voice recording i.e. 3gp,wav,amr. Select your format from setting menu.

WARNING : this app may sometime hangs your phone during active call session. So if you encounter this disable the notification from the app setting and you will not see the notification icon on the top of the screen.
